A wide range of features

Although global connectivity may seem simple in a quick glance, digging into the details shows that it comes in many forms and flavors. Many IoT services need more than just any global connectivity and often require additional features on top, to ensure the service works optimally.

On top of Cobira’s global connectivity foundation there are a wide range of features that together form a complete connectivity service for cellular IoT. Some of these features are highlighted below:

Permanent roaming

By default the same SIM may not be roaming in a network for more than 90 days. When exceeding 90 days a visited network operator can block the SIM unless there is an agreement with Permanent roaming allowed. Cobira has permanent roaming allowed in the majority of countries in the world. Following this link you can see where:

High availability

Some services are more mission critical than others and for those that need a very high level of connectivity assurance Cobira can offer FlexiSIM with high availability features.

With Cobira FlexiSIM you get not only redundancy on multiple mobile network carriers in the country but also redundancy on multiple connectivity partners.

This means that if a local mobile network carrier has a service outage, our FlexiSIM can switch to another mobile network carrier and if one of our connectivity partners should have a service outage our SIM can switch to another connectivity partner. It does not get much more reliable than that. Following the link you can see where we offer FlexiSIM with high availability.

Network whitelisting

Global connectivity access may not always be relevant for an IoT use case and there may be a desire to restrict the geographical area where the SIM will be working or certain networks in a country.

Reasons for making these restrictions can be:
  1. Limit access to certain networks in a country due to large price differences between the networks
  2. Steering towards specific networks in order to avoid e.g. devices attaching to networks in neighbouring countries when close to the borders
  3. To reduce the risk of misuse by blocking all irrelevant networks & countries

Cobira’s connectivity solution can allow or restrict each individual network and in case multiple connectivity partners are used each network can be managed per connectivity partner as well, giving full control over the usage for each individual SIM.

Network prioritization

Cobira’s connectivity service provides access to multiple mobile networks in most countries worldwide and by default all supported networks are available and it is the internal logic of the device that will determine what network will be chosen.

However, as a customer you may want to optimize on cost without preventing access to the more expensive networks in case the preferred network is not available - Or one network in a country has by far the best coverage and you want to prioritize this network to get as few network changes as possible in your fleet tracking service.

In cooperation with the customer Cobira can help make a plan for the prioritization of the networks...and in case any changes are needed after the service has been rolled out, the configuration can also be updated Over-the-Air.

Multiple radio access technologies

Each IoT use case has its own individual needs and with that also connectivity needs. Cobira supports multiple radio access technologies in most countries worldwide and continues to expand its connectivity offering.

At present we offer a combination of 2G, 3G, LTE & LPWAN (LTE-M + NB-IoT) on mobile cellular networks and also offer private established networks based on LoRa for geographically limited IoT solutions. Our current mobile network coverage and RAT offering can be found here.

Low latency - Regional POPs

With a global service the geographical distance between device and server can become very large as they can be on each side of the planet. From a network view this usually also has the consequence that the latency becomes high, which can affect lifetime of the device in cases with battery operated devices.

For applications where low latency is a concern Cobira can help reduce latency by offering regional internet access. Cobira can offer point of Presence in:
  • North America
  • South America
  • Asia
  • Western Europe

SIM & eSIM

A Cobira SIM that fits any IoT device. Simply plug in the SIM, and your IoT device is connected

Intelligent SIM

Cobira SIMs hold a variety of features that all enhance reliability and security. We have full control of the SIM through our connectivity management platform including multiple IMSIs and failover functionality. This provides redundancy on multiple levels both on the network but also on the IMSI.

eSIM - Subscription Management Services

The Cobira global connectivity is supported for both Consumer and M2M variants of the GSMA standard for eSIM Remote SIM Provisioning (RSP). Contact us for more information on how Cobira can help your project regarding eSIM and/or RSP services.
